Historical Background of the Division
Though the most of villages belong to Anuradhapura Municipal Council and Nuwaragam Palatha East Local Government Authority under the power of East Anuradhapura Electorate in Anuradhapura District had been named in Tamil when the surveying had been made 10 decades ago, they were used to be traditional Sinhala Villages and even today they are being used as the settlement of Sinhala People.
In addition to that Sinhala and Muslim people came for businesses and cultivation purposes from far way villages are living as permanent residents near by the city. People who are living near by the city are engaging in businesses or doing jobs and people where living somewhat far away from the City is engaging with agriculture as their livelihood can be seen as the main characteristic in the Division.
